Hacksaw Gaming has undergone some changes in recent years, with the company turning out a range of slots with plenty of quirky themes and features. It’s nice, then, to see the company take a step back and return to its roots a little with the Book of Time slot. The Book of Time slot is based around Canny the Can. For those who don’t know, he is one of the company’s original characters, making his debut appearance in the Stack ‘Em slot. Stack ‘Em was an early hit for the company, with many falling in love with Canny. Does Book of Time continue his legacy, or is it just cashing in? How to Play Book of Time
Fans of Stack ‘Em will be happy to see the game’s trademark animation style make a return. In fact, several elements of the base game are the same as Stack ‘Em, with the reels also being set in the middle of a forest opening and Canny standing next to the reels. However, things do get more interesting when you trigger the bonus rounds, with Canny springing to life and jumping to different locations. This only adds to the game’s personality, which is already impressive enough before this happens. Hacksaw Gaming rarely misses visually, and it has delivered once again here.
Book of Time Bonus Features
The Book of Time slot uses a fairly standard 5x4 game grid, with the game having 20 paylines. The stake for the game is adjusted using the +/- buttons you can find above and below the spin button. Outside of this, there is very little to note about the gameplay here, with Hacksaw keeping things basic.
The RTP for the slot sits at 96.13%. There are versions of the game available with lower RTPs so be sure to check before you take this slot for a spin. The maximum win is 10,000x the player’s stake, which is sure to grab some attention. Hacksaw Gaming has rated the game as being highly volatile.
The bonus rounds are where the Book of Time slot game really springs to life. Firstly, there is the It’s a Classic! Feature. This is a bonus spin round with an expanding symbol twist, which is only fitting for a game with ‘book of’ in its title. Players can trigger the game by landing three of the Book symbols. Three symbols trigger 10 spins with one special symbol, four trigger 15 spins with 2 bonus symbols, and five trigger 20 spins with three symbols.
At the start of the round, a symbol, or two or three, are chosen to be the special symbol. Whenever these land on at least three reels during the bonus spins, they will expand to cover all positions on those reels.
In the round, you can land an additional five spins by hitting three Book symbols on the reels. The game will also choose one additional special symbol.
The other bonus in the game is the ‘What Time Is It?’ round. Landing three of the Clock Scatters on the reels will trigger 10 spins for this. Above each of the three middle reels during the bonus, there is a clock that is going around. Whenever a clock activator lands on a reel, Wild Multiplier Clocks will spread up the reel, displaying the number the clock is on. Any wins will then be calculated.
If more than one Multiplier Clock is part of a win, then the multipliers are added together. The symbols are also Wild.

Book of Time is a fantastic return from Canny the Can and another brilliant slot from Hacksaw Gaming. It is easy to see another ‘Book of’ slot title and just expect more of the same gameplay, but Hacksaw Gaming, as it so often does, rips up the rulebook and puts an entirely fresh spin on these gameplay mechanics. This is a slot we would definitely recommend taking for a spin.
