Flying Hippo Theme and Design
Flying Hippo is a colourful outing from the developer, the kind that suits its cluster-pay set-up. The slot reels are floating above the clouds, with hippos and various smiling stars making appearances as symbols. A giant cloud sits grinning at the side of the screen, but everything remains mostly static throughout. It lacks the kind of memorable character design that we have come to expect from the company in slots like Big Bass Bonanza and the Dog House Multihold.
How to Play Flying Hippo
The Flying Hippo slot is a cluster-pay slot game that uses a 7x7 grid. Wins are paid out when players land clusters of five or more matching symbols on the reels.
The Flying Hippo slot has an RTP of 93.99%. This puts it much lower than the industry average and certainly less than we’ve expected from Pragmatic Play. It does not appear as though there are any versions with higher RTPs available either. The maximum win for the slot is 5,000x the player’s stake, with the game being given a 5/5 volatility rating.
Flying Hippo Bonus Features
The bonus features in Flying Hippo are all based around the Wild symbols and the Tumble mechanic. Whenever winning combinations are formed, a Tumble sequence is triggered, with winning symbols being removed and new ones falling onto the grid. This happens until no new winning clusters are made.
When a Tumble occurs, a Wild symbol will be formed on the grid. This will have a multiplier attached that is determined by the current level. Every time a Wild is used as part of a winning cluster, it is collected, with the level jumping up every time the meter has six Wilds.
At level one, the Wild can have a x2 or x3 multiplier, at level two it can be x3, x4, x5, or x6, and at level three it is the same as two. When level three has been reached, Colossal Wilds can land on the reels; these can have multipliers of x3, x5, x7, x10, x15, x25, or x50.
Flying Hippo Slot Verdict
Pragmatic Play has some really innovative and fun cluster-pay slots in its catalogue, but sadly, Flying Hippo isn’t one of them. The game does very little interesting, offering just a convoluted Wild and Multiplier set-up that doesn’t really lead to anything. The low RTP is also disappointing and is not what we’ve come to expect from the company. On the whole, there are a lot better Pragmatic Play slot games out there.
